In the mode of the popular genre of historical fiction, Santa Anna: In the General’s Charge presents the remarkably charismatic, often corrupt, and always fantastic figure who battled at the Alamo and went on to serve as president of Mexico eleven times during the republic’s most formative years. Only the first book in a planned and epic two-volume account of Santa Anna’s life as a treacherous and rebellious general, the novel details the impact that one man’s dubious motives and actions had for an entire country. Laced with modern-day ironies and portraits both ribald and comical of past generals and presidents, Santa Anna is a unique narrative by turns lyrical and illuminating, revealing the deeper truth and story behind how Santa Anna eventually lost much of Mexico to the U.S. A full proposal and English manuscript are available; a full Spanish translation is also available, though the translation is still being finalized.
